
PURPOSE
To recognize outstanding senior
boys and girls in the Pioneer Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc. service area and
to assist them financially in continuing their education.
COMPETITION
RULES
- Pioneer will award $1500 scholarships to two high
school seniors (one boy and one girl). The Cooperative will also award two second
place awards of $1000 each to the runners-up in each category.
- Pioneer first place scholarship winners are then eligible to compete for scholarships from the Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives, Inc. on May 12, 2008, in Columbus, Ohio. Six additional scholarships levels (one boy and one girl for each level) are awarded with the top prize being $2500. Applicants who have received a full tuition scholarship to the college of their choice are ineligible to compete at the OREC Scholarship Competition in May.
- Applicants
must be the son, daughter, or legal ward of a Pioneer Rural Electric Cooperative
member receiving service under their name at the time of competition. (In the case of rental properties the person who has the active service in their name at the time of the competition is the "active member." A landlord who does not have an active account in their name does not qualify as an active member.)
- Applicants must have all basic credits for entrance to college or
proper vocational or technical school. (Proper vocational or technical school
means one beyond high school where credits can be transferred to a state accredited
college.)
- Applicants must have a current career average of 3.5
or higher and be enrolled in an accredited college or proper technical/vocational
school of student's choice. (Applications with a lower GPA will be returned.) Eligible applicants may also be enrolled in an accredited
school of nursing, working toward a degree or graduation.
- Application information must be confined to the official nomination
form and grade transcripts.
- Applications must be typed. You can complete the form
on the web www.pioneerec.com and then print it out. Please enclose a photo of yourself along with your applicaton.
- Applications should be mailed to Pioneer Electric Cooperative,
Attn: Nancy Hatcher, 344 West U.S. Route 36, Piqua OH 45356
- Application forms must be
submitted to Pioneer Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc. no later than Monday,
March 3, 2008. All information, regardless of postmark, must be received in the office by 5:00 pm on March 3, 2008. Applications received in the office after this time will not be accepted.
- All applicants
will be interviewed on Thursday, March 13, 2008, at the Pioneer office in Piqua during office hours.
After the deadline, applicants will be notified through their schools of their interview time.
