Automated Meter Reading & Meters

It stands for automatic meter reading, but it is a lot more.  Actually, it will mean awesome member reliability because that’s what we can deliver by installing AMR equipment!

How does AMR work?
By using a combination of power line carrier and radio communications, Pioneer can obtain electronic data from member locations to the Cooperative in approximately 30 seconds.  The technology will allow for numerous member service and cost saving benefits as well as enhanced information to the Cooperative.

  • Improved billing accuracy
  • Monthly meter readings
  • Remote transfer of service from current member to new member
  • On-demand meter readings while on the phone with a member
  • Enhanced member service on billing and service issues
  • 24-hour usage patterns for each service to help troubleshoot high usage concerns
  • Savings on expenses related to meter readings including transportation costs
  • Creation of time to handle other member service concerns
  • Analysis of partial power situations
  • Outage detection in conjunction with our SCADA system
  • Major storm outage detection and monitoring
  • Detailed load information for planning and load forecasting
  • Engineering analysis for maintenance and improvement investments

Meters
Meters will be furnished and installed by Pioneer to measure the energy supplied. All equipment furnished by Pioneer will remain its property. Each member will provide, without charge to Pioneer, a suitable location for the meters and metering equipment to be furnished by the Cooperative. Pioneer reserves the right to determine where its meters or metering equipment will be located on the premises of the member. Residential and commercial meters will be located on the outside of the building and must be accessible at all times to Pioneer employees.

The type of meter installation will be determined by the size and character of the member’s load and the kind of service to be supplied. The member’s service entrance equipment and Pioneer’s meter installation equipment will be installed to conform to specifications and drawings provided by Pioneer. Meter bases will be furnished by Pioneer for all new and reconstructed service installations, but will be installed by the member.
