Being a member of a cooperatively-owned business brings various benefits and services. It also carries with it responsibilities for each member. The rules and responsibilities below are part of every contract for service made by Pioneer and govern all classes of service.
Your Responsibility
The point of delivery of electricity supplied by Pioneer is the point where the electricity enters the conductors at the member’s location, unless otherwise specified by special contract or as shown on Pioneer’s service drawings. All equipment on the load side of the point of delivery is owned, operated and maintained by the member, unless otherwise specified. The member will provide, install, operate and maintain all wiring devices necessary to utilize the electricity supplied from the point of delivery, except equipment that is necessary for metering purposes and other devices owned and/or maintained by Pioneer.
Breaking Meter Seals
Pioneer will seal or lock all meters and all enclosures containing meters, associated metering equipment and Cooperative-controlled load interrupting devices. The breaking of meter seals or the opening of Pioneer’s locking devices by unauthorized persons is strictly prohibited. Failure to comply with this regulation may result in penalties as specified in sections of the Revised Code of the State of Ohio.
Service Connection
Pioneer will make the final connection between its supply conductors and the member’s service entrance. Unauthorized persons are not permitted to make such connections.
Relocation of Service Facilities
Requests by members for relocation of electric service facilities should be made by contacting the Pioneer office. Pioneer will provide information regarding responsibilities for relocating facilities and any associated charges to the member at that time.
Compliance with Codes
All member’s wiring, appliances and services connected directly or indirectly to Pioneer’s service facilities should be installed to conform with the latest provisions of applicable federal, state, county and municipal codes and/or with the provisions of the National Electric Code. They will at all times comply with the standards contained in this handbook and Pioneer’s General Rules and Regulations.
Resale of Electricity
Electricity supplied by Pioneer is for the exclusive use of the member on the premises to which such energy is delivered. The member is not permitted to sell or sublet such service without the prior written consent of Pioneer.
Call Us Before Starting Electrical Work
Before electrical work is started on a residential, commercial, industrial or governmental building, it is recommended the owner, developer or electrical contractor consult with Pioneer concerning the type and character of service which can best fulfill the building’s requirements.
Auxiliary Service Guidelines
Members maintaining auxiliary generating equipment capable of providing all or part of their electric energy requirements and who desire to use this equipment in conjunction with Pioneer’s electrical service, must contact us for information regarding the connection and operation of their equipment. All stand-by generating equipment must be connected through a double-throw switch that disconnects the member’s service from Pioneer’s lines. Improper connection or operation of such equipment is illegal and could result in serious injury or death to Cooperative or other personnel.
Antennas and Other Attachments
No antennas or other devices shall be connected to Pioneer lines, poles or other facilities. All antennas erected by the member shall have a minimum clearance of eight feet from Pioneer’s nearest conductor and shall be installed to avoid the possibility of the antenna falling into or making accidental contact with such conductors. The member should avoid the erection of an antenna within close proximity to an electric line and should consult with Pioneer in those cases where there is any question as to the clearance of the nearest electric line. As a general “rule of thumb,” all antennas should be a distance of 1.5 times the height of the antenna from all power lines.
