Commercial Energy Audit Incentive
Pioneer is dedicated to helping its members manage their energy consumption and energy costs. While we serve mostly residential accounts, we know our Commercial and Industrial (C&I) accounts can benefit from energy efficiency as well.
Buckeye Power has partnered with Pioneer to help make the cost of a professional third-party energy audit more affordable. Here are some of the guidelines of the Commercial & Industrial Energy Audit Program:
- Businesses eligible for the Energy Audit Program include commercial and industrial businesses, local government, not-for-profit and private institutions, colleges and universities, and K-12 schools.
- Qualifying businesses may be applicable for reimbursement of up to 50% of the cost of a professional energy audit for their applicable business facility, up to a maximum amount of $5,000 from Buckeye Power, and an additional 25% of the cost would be covered by Pioneer.
- The audit proposed must be done by a professional auditing or engineering firm. (This cannot be done by staff of either the cooperative or the company requesting the audit.) The audit is not restricted to be implemented by any specific auditing firm, but it is highly advisable to select an auditing firm with prior experience in implementing audits on businesses similar in nature to the proposed business.
- Audits are restricted to one audit per business facility within a 5-year period.

Additional Resources
We have helped to identify several resources that our commercial and industrial members may find useful in making energy efficiency and renewable energy related decisions.
- Commercial Building Tax Deduction Coalition: includes information on the The Energy Policy Act of 2005 tax deduction for expenses incurred for energy efficient building expenditures made by a building owner. The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 extended these benefits until December 31, 2013.
- Commercial Lighting Tax Deduction: The Energy Policy Act of 2005 created the Energy Efficient Commercial Buildings Deduction, which allows building owners to deduct the entire cost of a lighting or building upgrade in the year the equipment is placed in service, subject to a cap. Learn more about how to apply for this tax deduction.
- Commercial Lighting Solutions: provides guidance on ways to improve your building interior lighting efficiency and reduce your energy consumption, without compromising quality design criteria.
- Touchstone Energy Business Energy Advisor: Various topics covering energy savings strategies, power supply, carbon reduction, sector reports, and technology applications.
- EnviroWatts® bulk purchasing options: if your business is looking for a way to “go green” and purchase some of its energy exclusively from renewable sources, our EnviroWatts program now offers a bulk purchasing option to meet your needs. Contact our Energy Advisor for more information.
