Tree Trimming Practices
Despite their beauty and importance, trees can be a hazard when in the vicinity of high voltage power-lines. Trees can also hamper providing reliable electric service. Each year expensive and unnecessary outages are caused by falling trees or by limbs coming in contact with power lines or transformers.
We recommend you only use professional tree services on your property. Only qualified line-clearance trimmers are allowed by law to work within 10 feet of energized high-voltage lines. We’ll be happy to assist in trimming limbs or removing trees near lines. If you’re unsure, give us a call, we’ll be happy to assess the situation.
Pioneer conducts a year-round line clearance and maintenance program to ensure safe clearances, fewer power interruptions and fewer intrusions on member property. Trees are trimmed on a regular 4 year trimming cycle. This program is conducted proactively before trees cause a problem and to expedite restoration times if there’s a problem.
Before a circuit/feeder is started, notification post cards are mailed to each member on that circuit letting them know we are in the area. Inspections by the forestry staff are done to identify trees and brush that require work. A supervisor notifies the landowner in person or by door hanger of the work needed. Trees are removed only by permission.
