Vehicle + Power Line Safety
At Pioneer Electric Cooperative, we pride ourselves on making safety our top priority – not only for our employees, but for our members and communities as well. This year our focus is to spread the word about vehicle and power line safety.
As an electric utility provider, we are often called to respond to accidents associated with power lines, poles, and other electrical equipment. Between January and April of 2017, we have responded to more than 30 vehicle accidents – a significant increase compared to previous years. Nineteen of those accidents resulted in 21 broken poles, and broken poles increase the chance of downed power lines. These situations can be particularly dangerous if the people involved do not know to stay in the vehicle, or the proper way to exit if necessary.
