Outage FAQ

Why don't I see a Pioneer truck near my home?

Outages are caused by a number of reasons, and the cause may be in a yard down the road, or at a substation a few miles away.

If you experience a power outage, we’ll work as quickly and safely as possible to get you back up and running.

Outage Text Communications

Pioneer Electric Cooperative provides members up-to-date information via text messaging (SMS) to alert members load control is in use due to peak demand and to provide two-way outage communication.

How do Outage Text Alerts work?

Our outage text alerts will send you status updates and estimated restoration times via (800) 762-0997.

All text messaging (SMS) services are completely optional. To opt out, simply respond to any message with QUIT and your number will be removed from the system. Opting out of peak alerts does not opt you out of outage alerts.

To report an outage: text OUT and a ticket is automatically generated in our system.

To get a status report: text STATUS and a restoration notice will be sent immediately. The notice will include an estimated time of restoration.

Our text messaging (SMS) services are compatible with all major cellular carriers. Data charges may apply.

How do I sign up for Outage Text Alerts?

If your mobile phone number is already in our system, we enrolled you! There is nothing left to do.

If your mobile phone number is not already in our system, call our offices at (800) 762-0997 and speak to a member service representative.  If your number changes at any point, please call us so we can update our system.

If you would like to add an additional number to receive outage text alerts, please call us.

Why am I not receiving Outage Text Alerts?

If you are experiencing an outage but did not receive a text, send OUT to (800) 762-0997. If you do not receive a response, please call our office at (800) 762-0997.

If you are not subscribed to outage text alerts or would like to resubscribe an opted-out number, text PIONEEREC to (800) 762-0997 to subscribe.

OUTAGE RESOURCES

Is Your Outage Isolated?

Check your fuses or circuit breakers.
If some of your lights or appliances are still working, the trouble is probably within your own system. Be sure to inspect the main cartridge fuses in the fuse box.

Check if your neighbors have electricity.
This helps determine if the line is out or a transformer issue.
